28th August 2006 Brands Hatch
I went to Brands Hatch in Kent with my son on 28th August 06 to watch the second round of the Avon Tyres British GT championship, Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3, Formula Ford, VW racing, and AC's.
It was quite a contrast to the week before when we went to watch club racing. For a start, they used the big track rather than the cut down track, so it took a little longer for the cars to lap, and it was fractionally harder to keep tags on who was in the lead. Somehow it was less engaging though so I wasn't particularly bothered. The thing about club racing is that every corner is hotly contested, the cars are very closely matched, and there seemed to be a whole heap of desire to win.
The sun was out though, so my photographs were much crisper and brighter. We spent a lot of time in the paddocks again, it's really good fun to walk around the cars as they are being expertly serviced between races. Generally though the people were a little less welcoming, not offish, but at the club racing event last week we were actually welcomed as we walked around, and this made the whole experience a lot more inclusive.
